The Malayalee Community in Vienna
The Malayalee community in Vienna consists of individuals and families who have roots in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Known for its rich cultural heritage, Kerala is celebrated for its festivals, traditions, and language - Malayalam. Our community is a vibrant and growing part of Vienna’s multicultural fabric, contributing to the city’s cultural diversity.
Since the early 1970s, Malayalees have been migrating to Vienna for various reasons, including work, education, and family. Today, the Malayalee Vienna community has grown into a close-knit group, with the Kerala Samajam Vienna at its core, offering a platform for social interaction, cultural exchange, and support.
We celebrate major Kerala festivals like Easter, Onam, and Christmas, and organize various cultural and sporting events to promote unity among our community members. By hosting Art and Music Workshops in Malayalam, German, and English for both children and adults, we aim to keep the younger generation connected to their roots while helping them integrate smoothly into Austrian society.
The Malayalee association in Vienna also serves as a support network for new immigrants. Through Kerala Samajam Vienna, we aim to preserve our rich cultural heritage while embracing our new life in Austria.
